ROOTED, AND OPEN
How we read the sky.
Calculation comes first
We calculate geocentric planetary positions using Astronomy Engine, then apply an approximate Lahiri ayanamsa to express them in the sidereal zodiac. Nakshatras divide that zodiac into 27 equal parts. Houses use the whole-sign method; Rahu and Ketu use the mean lunar node. Life chapters use Vimshottari dasha with a 365.25-day year. Each major period contains nine proportional sub-periods; the interactive timeline shows their approximate dates in your browser’s timezone, named alongside the dates (UTC is the fallback). Saved reading text uses UTC. The first major period can begin before birth because only its remaining balance is experienced after birth.
These are astronomical calculations, not AI guesses. This implementation is approximate and is not a Swiss Ephemeris calculation. Small differences in the calculation method or recorded birth time can change results near a sign or nakshatra boundary. Seventy-two additional synthetic reference charts across twelve locations and 1900–2025 agreed with independent Swiss Ephemeris/Moshier Lahiri fixtures within 0.01° for the tested planetary and rising positions. This finite test set is not a guarantee for every birth or a certification. We flag close birth-star boundaries and omit rising signs for extreme latitudes.
Birth time deserves care
We use historical timezone rules for your selected location. You can mark a supplied time as recorded or approximate; older times remain unverified. An estimated time produces a provisional chart, not a verified birth chart. For supplied times, we compare the chart at 15 minutes earlier and later and flag changed categories. This is a sensitivity comparison, not birth-time rectification or a confidence interval. If a clock change makes a birth time ambiguous, we ask you to check it rather than silently choose. Without a time, we inspect the local day for possible birth stars and withhold houses and life chapters.
Symbolism is a lens
Our free introductions are editorial reflections on traditional nakshatra symbols. They describe a tradition, not a proven measure of personality or a certain future. Interpretations differ across Jyotish lineages; your choices and lived experience remain your own.
Connecting the chart
Our guided discovery starts with the Moon and birth nakshatra, then connects the ascendant ruler with its natal house and the houses it rules. We compare same-sign conjunctions and full planetary aspects involving the Moon or ascendant ruler, then select a supporting connection. Life-chapter readings interpret the dasha and sub-period rulers through their natal placements, rather than their names alone.
This is a focused introduction, not a complete consultation. We use the seven classical sign rulers, whole-sign houses, and sign-level own-sign, exaltation and debilitation conditions. Full aspects include the seventh for all seven classical planets, plus Mars’s fourth and eighth, Jupiter’s fifth and ninth, and Saturn’s third and tenth. We omit nodal rulership, dignity and aspects where schools differ. Same-sign conjunctions do not imply closeness by degree.
Our selection is editorial: connections linking both the Moon and ascendant ruler come first, followed by mutual full aspects and closer same-sign companions. Stable name ordering resolves remaining ties. This makes selection reproducible; it is not a traditional strength ranking or a complete chart assessment. We do not yet assess complete planetary strength, combustion, retrogression, divisional charts, yogas, or the cancellations that can alter a dignity judgment. A single placement never establishes a person’s character or destiny.
The Monday letter currently uses the Moon at noon UTC on Monday and Sunday, alongside birth-star symbolism and natal houses when available. These are two snapshots, not a complete account of the week’s transits or exact transition times.
Private friend readings
Both participants sign in, save their own chart and approve the connection. The first shared reading compares their calculated sidereal Moon, Mercury and Mars signs through original editorial motifs about care, communication and taking action. Birth-star questions appear separately, with all uncertain possibilities preserved. Missing birth times leave unavailable comparisons open. This is a limited starting point for a conversation, not full synastry, Ashtakoot scoring or a prediction about the relationship. These shared readings use templates rather than AI generation.
Practices have their own roots
Jyotish supplies the astrological framework. Buddhist contemplation is a distinct tradition: we do not label every quiet reflection a Buddhist teaching, or invent a common lineage. Our initial prompts are simple, optional reflections. Guided discovery ends with our own exercise inspired by Bhagavad Gita 2.47, connecting considered action with freedom from attachment to its fruits. This is a Hindu philosophical teaching, not a chart-specific remedy. The Monday letter includes an explicitly attributed loving-kindness practice inspired by theKaraṇīya Mettā Sutta, alongside the astrological interpretation.
Personal readings
Members can request AI-assisted interpretations of calculated chart features. The model receives themes derived from those features, not your name, email, birthplace, or raw birth details. Each reading is saved so revisiting it does not require a new generation. Calculated statements and source references are supplied by our software, not invented by the model. Each new reading offers an expandable explanation of why its features were selected. The prose and exercises are original interpretations; citing a traditional framework does not make them scripture. Free discoveries and public pages use no AI calls.
